About the Super Lawyers and Rising Stars Selection Process

The Super Lawyers selection process begins with peer nominations, where lawyers recommend others they’ve personally observed in action. The Super Lawyers research team then evaluates nominees using 12 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement, such as a nominee’s verdicts, experience, honors, certifications, and community service. A blue ribbon panel of top-rated attorneys reviews the highest-scoring candidates to make final selections. Only 5 percent of the attorneys in any state can receive Super Lawyers honors.

The process for Rising Stars is nearly identical, with one key difference: eligibility. To qualify for Rising Stars, a lawyer must be 40 years old or younger or have been in practice for 10 years or fewer. Only 2.5 percent of attorneys in each state earn Rising Stars recognition each year.
