Resolution of suit after Heinz Field death will be confidential

Pittsburgh is known all over the world as a city that takes its sports seriously. The tenacity and dedication of baseball, hockey and football spectators has made the Steel City a very imposing prospect for away teams. Unfortunately, things can occasionally get out of hand.

We may never know who is found responsible for the death of a man at a home game at Heinz Field where an apparent altercation led to a fatal injury. A case brought by a survivor of the victim will be subject to a confidentiality agreement worked about by the plaintiff’s attorneys and the lawyers for one of the defendants.

The suit alleges that the criminal conduct of some spectators under the influence of alcohol caused and then exacerbated a conflict between the victim and a number of other people, two of whom were named in the suit. The owner of the stadium and its security contractor were also named in the suit for creating the environment in which the death took place.

The plaintiff, who was also present at the scene of the incident, is claiming damages for the negligent infliction of emotional distress on the part of the event operators. She is also seeking damages for assault and battery on the part of the individuals in the fight.

The survivors of people who have died from catastrophic injuries have the right to seek financial damages to help with recovery from the loss of a loved one — especially if the victim was a breadwinner for the family. An attorney can help the families of victims seek justice and compensation.
